The Essence Archive is an art collective of thirteen New Zealand-based artists whose photographic works reflect multiple levels of meaning. The artists' works are held in collections including the Wallace Arts Trust, the Auckland Festival of Photography Trust and private collections.
Two of The Essence Archive Artists: Caryline Boreham and David Cowlard have video works in the 2021 National Contemporary Art Award. The finalist works are exhibited at the Waikato Museum until 20 February, 2022. On 17 September Caryline was announced as the 2021 National Contemporary Award Winner with her video work Palmolive. Congratulations Caryline!

The Essence Archive Artist Céline Sayé is showing a recent image from her series, L'interface in the exhibition I, Camera at Photospace Gallery, 37 Courtenay Place, Wellington. The exhibition, which is curated by Mark Beehre, and focuses on the theme of self-portraiture, opens at 4pm on Friday, 10th December 2021.
Four of The Essence Archive Artists: Christine Jeffs, Timothy Mackrell, Yvonne Shaw and Christopher Young are showing work in the exhibition, It ain't necessarily so, at The Pah Homestead, opening in April 2022. The exhibition runs from 7 April - 29 May.
